ทิศทางของหัวหน้างานกับทิศทางของบริษัทไม่ค่อยจะสอดคล้องกัน อาจเนื่องจากหัวหน้าไม่เข้าใจวัตถุประสงค์ที่แท้จริงของนโยบายของบริษัทฯ และเป็นกังวลแต่เฉพาะกับงานที่รับผิดชอบของตัวเองมากจนเกินไป

เปิดโอกาสให้พบเจอกับงานที่ท้าทายแต่ขาดการสนับสนุนจากหัวหน้างานเนื่องจากหัวหน้างานไม่ได้ลงมาดูในรายละเอียดการทำงานอย่างแท้จริง, ความท้าทายมักถูกส่งให้กับผู้ที่ไม่มีปากเสียงในการโต้แย้ง แต่ไม่ได้ถูกส่งมอบให้กับผู้ที่เหมาะสมในงานที่ท้าทายนั้นๆ

เมื่อพนักงานมีความสามารถซึ่งสามารถประเมินได้จากงานที่รับผิดชอบและงานที่ได้รับมอบหมาย เมื่อผลงานดีควรมีการโปรโมทหรือชมเชย ไม่ใช่การมอบหมายงานที่ท้าทายให้เพิ่มขึ้นเรื่อยๆ โดยไม่ได้รับผลตอบแทนที่เพิ่มขึ้น นี่คือเหตุผลที่บุคลากรของบริษัทฯ DHL ต้องออกจากบริษัทฯเพื่อหาความก้าวหน้าในอาชีพจากบริษัทฯอื่น
